Search Warrants Lead to Meth Sales Charges Against Rochester Man
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A Rochester man with a past felony drug conviction is facing new drug charges after local law enforcement executed a flurry of search warrants over the summer.
Charges filed Wednesday in Olmsted County Court say the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office served the search warrants for two vehicles and two storage units this past June. Deputies executed one of the vehicle searches after spotting the defendant driving one of the vehicles named in the search warrant.
Deputies stopped the vehicle, driven by 43-year-old Jose David Talamantes, in the area of 9th St. and 1st. Ave Northeast. Upon searching the vehicle, deputies found a fanny pack containing 396.5 grams of a substance that later tested positive for methamphetamine, the complaint says.
The charges say deputies found the suspect meth in one large package and in several smaller packages that appeared to have been pre-weighed. Deputies also allegedly found four cellphones in the vehicle and $1,027 in cash onTalamantes's person.
The charges say the amount of suspected meth in the vehicle and manner it was packaged in along with the discovery of the cash and cell phones indicated drug sale activity.
Talamantes was charged Wednesday with a felony count of first-degree drug sales and a felony first-degree drug possession charge. Court records indicate he was convicted of felony second-degree drug possession in Olmsted County in 2015.
He’s been summoned to make his first appearance in Olmsted County Court next month.
