Teen and 2 Others Injured, Driver Arrested in Austin, MN Crash
Austin, MN (KROC-AM News)- Police in Austin suspect an impaired driver was involved in an injury crash over the weekend.
A news release issued by the Austin Police Department Monday indicates officers responded to the crash Saturday night. It happened in the area of 2nd Ave. Southwest and 4th St. Southwest shortly before 8:50 p.m.
Upon arrival officers reported finding a silver SUV with what’s described as heavy front-end damage in the middle of 2nd Ave. and a red SUV with heavy driver’s side damage up along a garage on the north side of the road. Police say a 16-year-old boy driving the red SUV was found unresponsive.
He was treated by first responders before being transferred to Mayo Clinic in Austin for further care. His condition is not available as of Monday morning.
A passenger in the red SUV was also treated at the scene then transported to Mayo for further medical care. A passenger in the silver SUV was reported to have left the crash scene. He was found passed out due to apparent intoxication and was also taken to Mayo Clinic in Austin, police say.
Police also reported arresting 23-year-old Jeffer Lorenzo near the crash area after witnesses reported seeing him flee the SUV found in the middle of the road after the crash. Police say Lorenzo admitted to driving the SUV and showed signs of being under the influence.
Lorenzo was evaluated at a local hospital before being taken to the Mower County Jail where investigators drew a sample of his blood for testing after obtaining a search warrant. Lorenzon remains in the Mower County Jail as of Monday morning.
The news release says the Mower County Attorney’s Office is reviewing the case and considering possible charges. No other names have been released. The crash remains under investigation.
