Teenage Boy Killed in Head-On Crash on Rural SE Minnesota Highway
Lonsdale, MN (KROC-AM News) - A head-on crash Tuesday evening near Northfield has claimed the life of a 14-year-old boy and left another teenager and a young man with severe injuries.
The Rice County Sheriff's Office issued a statement this morning concerning the tragic incident, which was reported around 7:40 PM on a rural road and Webster Township. The news release says the collision involved two pickups traveling along 30th Street West about 5 miles northeast of Lonsdale.
The Sheriff's Office identified the victim as Brantley Ryan McCarty. The statement says he was a passenger in a pickup driven by 20-year-old Caleb Mulvihill of Lakeville that was headed west on the roadway when it crossed over the center line and collided with an eastbound pickup driven by 16-year-old Hunter Bundy, who is also from Lakeville.
The Rice County Sheriff's Office news release says both of the drivers suffered critical injuries and were transported to hospitals in the Twin Cities for treatment.
Information about their current medical conditions is not available. Officials note that investigators do not believe impairment was a factor in the crash.
The Minnesota State Patrol is assisting Rice County in a crash reconstruction as part of the investigation, which is ongoing.
