Duluth, MN (KROC-AM News)- A house explosion in northern Minnesota critically injured two people Thursday morning.

Several fire agencies, Mayo Clinic Ambulance and a medical helicopter responded to the home.

Officials say neighbors of the home rescued its two residents after they heard the explosion. The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office says the explosion was reported shortly after 11 a.m. at a residence in Rice Lake Township, which is about 10 miles north of Duluth.

The home then burst into flames and was fully engulfed by a fire when first responders arrived. The two people rescued from the home have been identified as 32 year old Jadin Dallum and 31 year old Mandy Dallum.

Authorities say Jadin was airlifted to a hospital and Mandy was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital. 

Both suffered what are being described as serious injuries. Three children who live at the house were at school at the time of the explosion and are safe, officials say.

The house was deemed a total loss. The cause of the explosion remains under investigation, however preliminary information indicates the home’s furnace was being repaired at the time of the incident.
