Update: Victim Shot in Face During Recent Rochester Shooting
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Rochester Police have released more information regarding a recent shooting at an apartment complex.
Officers responded to the gunfire report around 11:55 p.m. Friday near the Rochester Community and Technical College campus at the Quarters Apartments at 842 21st Avenue Southeast.
On Monday morning Police Captain Casey Moilanen said the gunshot victim, described as a 20-year-old woman, had been shot in the face. Her wound is not believed to be life-threatening.
Moilanen says someone had fired off a gunshot in the hallway while a large party was occurring at one of the apartments. He said more gunshots were fired in the parking lot outside of the building where the shooting victim was hit by a bullet while she was in a parked vehicle.
Officers also found a round struck the 851 building and another bullet hit the 863 building. The round that hit the 863 building entered a bedroom but no one was hurt.
Moilanen said the bullet that hit the 851 building did not make it into the structure’s interior. As of Monday morning no arrests have been made.
While responding to the shooting, officers learned of an individual seen prowling through cars at the apartment complex. The man fled the scene in a Buick LeSabre when officers arrived despite police trying to stop the man.
Moilanen said officers followed the vehicle as it fled east on 4th St. Southeast until it hit the curb near Olmsted Medical Center and became disabled. The suspect momentarily fled on foot before laying down in the road and surrendering.
Moilanen identified the suspect as 21-year-old Christian Russ of Rochester. He was arrested on suspicion of felony theft of a motor vehicle after the Buik was determined to have been stolen and 4th-degree DWI.
Moilanen said it does not appear the vehicle theft suspect was involved in the shooting.
