Minnesota Man Wins National Conservation Award

NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE (WJON News) -- A Todd County man has won a service award from the National Wild Turkey Federation.

Ralph Warzecha of Eagle Bend was presented the Roger M. Latham Sportsman Wild Turkey Service Award for his conservation and outreach efforts. He received the award recently at the 48th annual Convention and Sport Show in Nashville, Tennessee.

The NWTF says the award recognizes members who have made significant contributions to wild turkey conservation. Warzecha won one of five such awards at the convention.

In a statement, the organization says Warzecha has worked on several projects on his land including restoring and creating 22 ponds or wetlands, creating 231 acres of prairie grass habitat, and hosting hunters through a mentoring experience.

Warzecha is credited for spearheading a youth event in Alexandria last year that saw 2,785 young people participate.

The NWTF says Warzecha is the chairman of the Minnesota State Gun Calendar Program, is the president of the Struttin' Blackbeards NWTF Chapter, and has raised money through charitable events.
