Why Is There A Giant Blanket On Rochester’s Apache Mall Water Tower?
If you've driven anywhere near the Apache Mall in Rochester, Minnesota lately, you probably noticed something a little...strange.
At least, I did.
I was driving on Hwy 52 the other day when I looked over at the water tower and thought, "Why does that thing look like it has a giant blanket on it?"
And when I say "giant", I mean MASSIVE!
Today, it looked like a massive water tower burrito as the blanket was wrapped around the entire structure.
What Is Covering the Rochester Water Tower By The Apache Mall?
Rochester Public Utilities put out a statement on Facebook recently that gave an update to the community about the work that is currently underway at this water tower. While it might look a little ridiculous from the road right now, there's actually a lot happening underneath that giant "blanket".
Work is officially underway on RPU’s water tower restoration project! Crews are making progress as they prepare the tower for repairs and a fresh coat of paint. The project includes: • Repainting the tower inside and out • Completing structural and concrete repairs • Replacing aging components and improving safety features - Rochester Public Utilities

When Will The Work At The Apache Mall Water Tower Be Finished?
Based on the update from RPU, the project is expected to be finished by November 1st, 2026.
