Winter Storm Watch: Prepare For Up To 10 Inches Of Snow In Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin

If you haven't got your snow gear and snowblowers out yet, you are going to want to make that happen before Friday.  According to the National Weather Service, parts of Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin are going to get hit with bone-chilling temperatures and could see up to 10 inches of snow.

Bone-Chilling Temperatures and Up To 10 Inches of Snow Possible Starting Thursday in Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Illinois

I've been keeping an eye on the weather for the weekend pretty closely because I am supposed to be leaving Rochester, Minnesota Friday night to take my kid back to college.  He goes to school in Kansas and after my last trip there, in the middle of a massive storm that dumped 10 inches on Wichita, I am NEVER doing that again.  We saw over 40 cars in the ditch and there was a moment where my car was jumping from side to side...yes, both tires on the right were off the ground and then it bounced to the other side and the left tires went for a little ride in the air.  Not fun.

If you have plans to travel this weekend in Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, or Wisconsin, you may want to change those.  The National Weather Service just stated that a "significant winter storm taking aim at the region".

Winter Storm Watch Starts Thursday for Areas of Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin and Ilinois

A Winter Storm Watch will be in effect later in the day on Thursday, January 11th and will stay with us until Saturday morning.

.A powerful winter system impacts the region from late Thursday night into Saturday, bringing with it widespread accumulating snow and strong winds. The greatest impacts from falling snow would be during the day on Friday, with strong winds persisting Friday night into Saturday resulting in continued blowing snow and near whiteout conditions. A widespread 6 to 10 inches of snow is forecast, but these amounts could still change based on refinements to the storm track. Bitterly cold air arrives on the heels of this storm with wind chills of 20 to 30 below zero by Saturday night.

Travel Will Be Very Difficult During The WINTER STORM WATCH on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday in Parts of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Illinois

Safety is top of mind right now and if you have to travel, commute to work, or be outside the next few days, the National Weather Service reminded individuals that travel could be very difficult.  There is also a chance that blowing snow will occur which could reduce visibility.
