Eye Care Products Sold in Minnesota Recalled Due to Safety Concerns
Some eye care products, including eye drops and artificial tears, that were sold in Minnesota and across the country have been recalled. If you use any sort of eye products, check this out to see if you're affected.
I wear contacts, so I was a little concerned about this possibly relating to contact solution. Good news, it doesn't!
It does, however, involve five different products that could be a safety concern.

Voluntary Eye Care Products Recall After FDA Audit
The FDA was conducting an audit of where these eye care products are manufactured, and they discovered manufacturing deviations.
AvKARE, the distributor of the products, released a statement along with a list of the products part of the recall and what to do if you own any recalled products.
In their statement, AvKARE writes: "Health Hazard to the user is unknown ... [but] it is not possible to rule out patient risks resulting from use of these products."

Even though the health risk isn't known, Newsweek writes that the warning rating issued by the FDA is the second-highest level possible, so from my point of view, it seems pretty serious.
Recalled Eye Care Products
The products being recalled were first shipped from May 26, 2023, until April 21, 2025.
Here are the specific products that are part of the recall:
- NDC# 50268-043-15 Artificial Tears Ophthalmic Solution
- NDC# 50268-066-15 Carboxymethylcellulose Sodium Ophthalmic Gel 1%
- NDC# 50268-068-15 Carboxymethylcellulose Sodium Ophthalmic Solution

- NDC# 50268-678-15 Polyvinyl Alcohol Ophthalmic Solution
All expiration dates are in 2025, 2026, or 2027.
If you own any of these products, stop using them right away.
AvKARE has more specifics for each product being recalled, like the lot number and the exact expiration date that would be on the packaging.
What You Should Do If Your Eye Care Product is Recalled
If you own any of these products above, like I mentioned, stop using them right away.
From there, AvKARE wants you to fill out and return a 'Quantity to Return' form, which you'll download from AvKARE's recall statement.
Once that is filled out, they say to either fax it to 931-292-6229 or email it to customerservice@avkare.com.
After the form is sent, AvKARE will send you a Return Authorization Form. From there, you'll send any recalled items back to them for a credit. Details like mailing address are in AvKARE's recall statement.
