If you're out and about tonight, keep your eyes on the skies. You may even want to plan a bit of time to get out somewhere a bit darker after the sun sets tonight to check this out.

In the Minnesota sky, and skies all across the US, we are going to see a special Flower Moon tonight. Tonight's moon is also a micromoon.

But what the heck does that even mean? And when will be the best time to see it?

When to See the Flower Moon / Micromoon

The sun will set in Minnesota around 8:25-8:30 PM tonight. And while you can see the moon at any time during the evening on a clear night, there is a particular time that will be ideal for viewing.

According to Space.com, the perfect time for viewing the Flower Moon/micromoon, the time when it'll be at its peak illumination, will be at 11:56 PM.

If you aren't able to see it tonight, don't worry, it'll still at least appear to be a full moon for the next couple of nights.

Why is it Called the Flower Moon

Why is this particular full moon called the flower moon? Space.com writes that the 'Flower Moon' "gets its name from the abundance of wildflowers that spring into life at this time of year."

Why is it Called a Micromoon

And what about the other name? Tonight's full moon is also known as a micromoon because, as USA Today writes, the moon will be at its furthest point away from Earth, making it appear smaller than normal.
