Small-town living isn't for everyone but I think we can all appreciate small towns. I'm one of those people that would never be able to live in a small town but I absolutely love visiting small towns. And we have plenty of great ones around Minnesota.

Best Small Towns in the Country

Recently, there was an updated list released by Far and Wide of the best small towns across the country. They only looked at towns with a population of 10,000 or less and then ranked those towns to determine the top 100 best of the best.

Two Minnesota towns made the list of the top 100 in the country. I've been to one of them but not the other, so I guess I have a weekend trip to start planning.

Best Small Towns in Minnesota

Coming in as the 57th best small town in the country and second best in the Land of 10,000 Lakes is Perham in west central Minnesota.

Perham has a population of just 3,512 people and is described as "a small, yet vibrant city". Also, it's right in the middle of Minnesota's lake country so there are plenty of outdoor activities to partake in while you're there, especially on the water.

If you'd like to take some time to hang out in the town of Perham, they have "an active downtown, with many shops, restaurants, and attractions for people of all ages."

This is the town that I haven't been to yet, so it's getting added to my Minnesota bucket list!

For the second Minnesota town on the list, we jump to number 29, which is Grand Marais along the North Shore.

I'm really glad Grand Marais made the list because it's an amazing and pretty small town. They're even smaller than Perham with a population of 1,360.

They call the town "artsy and quirky" and they welcome "creatives, families and adventure-seekers alike."

With Grand Marais being up north and along Lake Superior there are plenty of outdoor adventure opportunities. But the town itself is also super cute definitely work checking out.

This isn't the first time Grand Marais was featured on nationwide lists. They've also been named one of America's Coolest Small Towns by Budget Travel Magazine, one of the Top 10 Beach Getaways by Outside Magazine,  and a Next Great Adventure Town by National Geographic Adventure Magazine.

Neither of these towns aren't even close to the smallest in the state. Keep scrolling to check those out!
