Hot Summer Still Expected Despite Minnesota’s Chilly Surprise

What the heck happened, Minnesota? We had record heat a little over a week ago, and now it's cold! I was so ready for summer to begin, and then this happened.

We talked back in March about the summer weather predictions from the Farmer's Almanac and the Old Farmer's Almanac. But have predictions changed since then, especially after the cold spell we're in?

Summer Weather Predictions for Minnesota

The original predictions had a similar consensus: it's supposed to be hot this summer, with July being the hottest month. The Farmer's Almanac specifically said it will be "scorching".

The Farmer's Almanac also predicted average rainfall. However, the Old Farmer's Almanac says it's going to be a dry summer.

Why It's Smoky in Minnesota

Experts are also saying that this summer is going to be smoky and hazy. MPCA predicts that there will be "four to seven days this summer when ozone levels may be unhealthy for sensitive groups" and "between 12 and 16 days of wildfire smoke impacts".

Not nearly as bad as it was a couple of summers ago (like the picture above), but still.

Updated Summer Weather Prediction for Minnesota

As for our latest summer weather prediction, even though temperatures dropped dramatically recently, the latest prediction from The Weather Channel says we're still in for a hot summer.

As of their predictions from Wednesday, May 14th, June is expected to be a bit warmer than normal.

In July, also above normal.

And in August, yep, you guessed it, above normal temperatures are predicted.

On the precipitation side of things, The Weather Channel's latest predictions are leaning in favor of the Old Farmer's Almanac predictions: dry.

They're predicting that Minnesota will have below-average precipitation all summer.
