The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for a portion of southern Minnesota in effect until 9 pm tonight.

The Severe Thunderstorm Watch includes Blue Earth, Dakota, Faribault, Freeborn, Goodhue, Le Sueur, Nicollet, Rice, Scott, Steele, and Waseca (+more) counties in southern Minnesota.

The main threats for severe weather include large hail, damaging winds, heavy downpours, and a few tornadoes.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means that conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms in and near the watch area. Severe thunderstorms can and sometimes do produce tornadoes.
