This morning I received a heads up that a local real estate company was closing their doors. Handy Andy Real Estate Experts, run by Andy Mulholland, will be handing over their own keys in the next few weeks.

I was part of the real estate scene in Rochester for about 10 years and finished up my career around the same time as Andy Mulholland started.  I've kept my eye on this industry while I've stepped back from being a REALTOR, but enjoyed the work of sales and a community where you are helping people find the place they call "home".

The abrupt closing for this company was somewhat shocking to hear, especially with the amount of advertising that I see on billboards and throughout social media.  I know how expensive that is and just drove by several billboards this morning on my way to work.

I did reach out to some of the staff at Handy Andy Real Estate Experts to verify the news but did not receive responses from any of the individuals.  I searched their website and social media pages as well but did not see any announcement stating that they were closing their doors.  The website looks as if they are still taking clients and even have job openings.

According to the Jeff Kiger's "Heard on the Street" column in the Post Bulletin today, Andy Mulholland stated, “It’s such a demanding industry. I’ve got four kids and a wife at home,” he said. “The decision was made to just spend more time with them. Ultimately, that’s what it came down to.”

If you are a buyer or seller that has a contract with this organization and have questions, a great resource to speak with is the Southeast Minnesota Association of REALTORS.  You can find their contact information and great resources at their website: www.semnrealtors.com
