McDonald's is always trying new items on its menus. Some like Onion Nuggets or Salad Shakers don't last long, but some like the Happy Meal are instant hits. Each year, more than 1-billion Happy Meals are sold in more than 100 countries around the world. Now, McDonald's has announced a major change to the kids' meals.

In a press release on the company's corporate website, they say, "Today we’re taking a step to keep the fun going while helping to build a more resilient planet for the next generation."

The company wants every toy sold in Happy Meals to be sustainable by 2025 - "made from more renewable, recycled, or certified materials like bio-based and plant-derived materials and certified fiber."

McDonald’s says they've assembled a team of scientists, toymakers, and suppliers to work with kids and keep the "fun-factor high" with these new environmentally-friendly Happy Meals which will be sold starting in January.
