Minnesota COVID Hospitalizations Lowest Since Last August
St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - The number of people hospitalized in Minnesota due to COVID-19 has dropped below 200 for the first time since last summer.
The most recent statistics from the State Health Department show 192 people are currently hospitalized for treatment because of the new viral infection. The last time that number has been this low was early August of last year. 54 of the current COVID-19 patients are being treated in intensive care. That is the lowest number of ICU beds filled by COVID-19 patients since March 8th when the overall hospitalization total was above 250.
Olmsted County Public Health says only 20 new COVID-19 infections were detected in the Rochester area last week. That is 10 fewer than the total reported the previous week. Statewide, 150 new infections were reported today, including three new cases in Olmsted County.
Minnesota health officials say 65 percent of state residents 16 years and older have now received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, which is close to 3 million Minnesotans. In Olmsted County, over 82 percent of residents at least 16 years old have received at least one dose, and about 75 percent are fully vaccinated.
