If you're hitting the road this holiday weekend, the state of Minnesota just issued two warnings you'll want to take note of before you pack up the car and head out.

After the past two years, when many events and activities were either canceled or reduced, a LOT of us here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes are getting ready to do some traveling this 4th of July holiday weekend.

In fact, AAA says that they're expecting nearly 48 million Americans to travel more than 50 miles from home this year, a five percent increase over last year. And the majority of us (90 percent, AAA says) are getting ready to pack up the kids in the family truckster and hit the highways here in Minnesota or elsewhere.

That's why the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) just issued a head's up about possible delays you could encounter this weekend, as a result of the 200 road construction projects underway across the state. (Which includes two projects on Highway-52 north of Rochester.)

Although MnDOT says most construction work will pause for the holiday, people should be aware of lane restrictions, narrow lanes, road closures, and more. And, they also noted that the fine for speeding in a work zone is $300.

Meanwhile, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety Office of Traffic Safety (DPS-OTS) also noted that you'll want to keep an eye on your speed while you're out there on the highways here in the North Star State this holiday weekend.

In a release Thursday, DPS-OTS noted that police across Minnesota are starting a month-long, statewide extra speed enforcement campaign. It kicked off July 1st and runs through the end of the month, and is designed to help stop speed-related deaths and educate drivers.
