MN High School Team Has Two No Hitters In 24 Hours

The spring sports season is a short one here in Minnesota. It seems every year teams have to cram their season into the last three weeks of the school year due to weather. This year the weather has cooperated up until this week, allowing teams to get a few games in. One of those teams, La Crescent High School, in SE Minnesota did something that it's coach hadn't seen in his 43 years of coaching. The team's pitchers threw two no-hitters in the span of 24 hours.

USA Today High School Sports reported on the story today. In the first game that the Lancers playing on Thursday, April 4th junior pitchers Luke Schwartzhoff and Isaac Petersen combined on a no-hitter against Rushford-Peterson. Then on Friday, Senior Bryce Weymiller threw a no-hitter against Lewiston-Altura.

The team's coach Rick Boyer told the La Crosse Tribune that he 'hadn't seen that done in his 43-years of coaching baseball.' The Lancers are 2-1 on the season, so far, and possibly having a few days off this week with the cold wet weather that is expected later today.

To put this feat in comparison according to MLB-Reference there have been 244 no-hitters since 1901. Which averages out to about 2 total no-hitters in the majors a year.
