MnDOT Reminds SE Minnesota Motorists To Drive With Caution
Snow and icy road conditions are being forecasted for portions of SE Minnesota starting this afternoon. After a lengthy mild and dry period on the roads, MnDOT is reminding motorists of the importance of good winter driving habits.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning got Freeborn and Mower counties, and a Winter Weather Advisory for Rice, Steele, Olmsted, Waseca, Dodge, Winona, Houston, and Fillmore counties. The warning for Freeborn and Mower counties is due to the NWS predicting 6-8 inches of snow falling over a short period of time.
MnDOT has these tips for drivers:
- Stay Alert for snowplows. They can turn or exit the roadway frequently and often with little warning.
- Stay back at least 10 car lengths from the plow.
- Slow down to a safe speed for current conditions.
- Turn on your headlights and buckle up.
- Turn off cruise control
- Be Patient
