Popular Downtown Restaurant in Rochester Closing After 5 Years
My heart sunk a bit this morning. I was scrolling through Facebook and saw a post from Porch Fried Chicken, a restaurant in downtown Rochester, Minnesota that has amazing chicken and sits in the old train depot. They gave the sad news that they and their burrito business in the lower level, Boxcar Hippie, are closing on September 19th.
Note to Customers from Porch and Boxcar Hippie
After 5 unforgettable years, we have made the difficult decision to close our doors for good.
This is a very hard decision for us because we love this restaurant, the historic space, our loyal guests, and especially the wonderful team of people who made this place what it is. To all of you who breathed life into this space, we cannot thank you enough. We put everything we had into trying to make people happier than when they arrived, and for that we are grateful. That’s why we do what we do.
—Why are we closing?—
1) Covid— with the ever changing effects of Covid, we’ve had to change and re-change our day to day operations and it has drastically affected our business structure.
2) Staff— in order to operate to our highest potential, and provide the absolute best service as possible, we need to have enough staff on at all times. We do not have enough to properly run service. We want our guests to have the best dining experience each time, and we cannot do that at this time.
Our last day open will be September 19th
Thank you for your understanding and continued support for both Hot Chip and Mr Pizza North is much appreciated.
Sincerely,
Justin Schoville and Lindsay Zubay - Porch Facebook Page
