Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Thursday will be a big day for those involved in Rochester’s DMC initiative.

The DMC Corporation Board will hold its annual meeting and the public is invited to take part in the grand opening of its One Discovery Square building.

Several events are scheduled for what’s being called a “community celebration” that will run from 4:00 - 6:00 PM.

According to a DMC press release:

“During the open house-style event, several One Discovery Square tenants will feature science on display through interactive demonstrations and activities. Attendees can take a self-guided tour and scavenger hunt through the building. Specialty waffle tacos and coffee by Café Steam, ice cream from Flapdoodles, and beverages will be available. Live music will be provided by Minneapolis pop group Yam Haus.

The public is also invited to take part in what’s called the “Discovery Walk Interactive Experience.”

According to the release:

“This will provide the public an opportunity to begin visualizing the future of Discovery Walk, a linear parkway along 2nd Avenue SW that will connect the Heart of the City to Soldiers Field Park. Several interactive activities and prototypes will line Second Avenue NW between 4th and 5th Streets. For example, Threshold Arts and local artists will install a series of engaging art arches along the street, while a chalk artist will draw a 3D representation of what Discovery Walk may be like. Local organizations will also provide interactive, whimsical outdoor musical instruments, yard games, and unique outdoor furniture. These temporary installations will show the public what Discovery Walk could look like in the future as planning for the project continues.”

The annual meeting is scheduled to be held outdoors from 5:30 – 8:00 PM. More than 400 people are expected for the sold-out event.
