The Twins just announced plans for Joe Mauer Weekend at Target Field, but they seemed to forget one important part.

We all know that St. Paul's own Joe Mauer wrapped up his illustrious career as a Minnesota Twin at the end of last season when he hung up his uniform for good. But as one of the team's most beloved players, they're celebrating him all over again this month at Target Field.

The Twins released plans last week about Joe Mauer Weekend, which is happening on June 15th. (You can read more about it HERE.) It includes a number-7 Twins ball cap giveaway and the official ceremony where they'll retire his number.

But do you remember the promotion the Twins did 13 years ago when they gave away his trademark sideburns? You have to set your Way-Back Machine to August 10th, 2006, when they Twins sponsored 'Joe Mauer Sideburn' Night!

According to this ESPN story, the night involved a good-natured poke at Joe's trademark facial hair. "The first 10,000 people through the Metrodome gates will receive replica Mauer sideburns, made out of synthetic dark hair with double-sided tape to allow for attachment to fans' faces," the story noted.

I think it was one of the best promotions of all time! I only wish I'd been able to make it to the game to get a pair. The story went on to say that during that night, Joe's sideburns a pretty good night themselves-- going 2 for 3 with a single and run-scoring double in the bottom of the 8th inning.
