Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Work associated with the Heart of the City improvement project in downtown Rochester will require closing a portion of 2nd Street Southwest into the fall.

The Rochester Public Works Department says the closure of 2nd Street Southwest to through traffic from Broadway to 1st Avenue Southwest begins on Monday. The city previously shut down through traffic on 1st Avenue Southwest between 2nd Street and Center Street and that closure will continue.

In addition, a sanitary sewer project will reduce traffic on 2nd Street Southeast to a single westbound lane from 3rd Avenue Southeast to Broadway. The closure of both eastbound lanes in that area is expected to last into August.

Access to the 2nd Street Parking Ramp will be closed for 30 days. The City says crews will be using the time to conduct routine maintenance work on the ramp.

All local routes will stop on the west side of 2nd Avenue Southwest, direct routes will stay on 2nd Street Southwest, the 1D and 6D routes will stop on the north side of 2nd Street Southwest in front of Calvary Episcopal Church, while the 3D and 18D will stop on the south side of the roadway.
