Rochester City Staff Recommends Funding Plan For North Broadway
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Rochester City Council is being asked to vote Monday evening on a funding plan that would allow work to begin next year on the two-year North Broadway reconstruction project.
Staff is recommending using state aid money to fill a $1.2 million gap in the funding for the $19 million project. The shortfall developed when the city hired a consultant to determine the impact of the reconstruction plan on the value of adjoining properties after fielding complaints and protests from the property owners over the size of the proposed assessments. The consultant’s report called for reducing the assessments by a total of $1.2 million to better reflect the actual benefit of the project.
The city also has the option of tapping into some federal transportation funds but that would likely delay the start of the project by a year. Both options would impact funding for future city road projects.
