Rochester Credit Union Issues Scam Warning
First Alliance says several people in southeast Minnesota have alerted them about a scam happening in our area. The credit union says scammers are sending text messages warning about fraud on peoples' accounts. After that, the would-be victim receives a phone call from a person asking them to send money through an app to keep their account open.
You can read the full statement that FACU posted to Facebook below. First Alliance says they never contact people this way and never ask for money to be sent through apps.
First Alliance shared this warning on their Facebook page, "We have had several members report receiving strange text messages about fraud on their account followed by a phone call from a woman pretending to be from the credit union. The woman is asking our members to send money to her through a payment app to stop fees from being charged or to stop their account from being closed. The credit union will NEVER contact you in this way and we would NEVER ask for members to send us money through any payment apps for any reason, ever. Please be very vigilant if you receive a phone call like this hang up immediately. It is important that you do not share any information about yourself or your account with this person.
