Rochester Man Allegedly Impaired and Speeding at More Than 100MPH
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - For the second time in less than a week, there is news concerning an allegedly impaired driver caught speeding at over 100 mph in the Rochester area.
Charges were filed Friday against a 27-year-old Rochester man in connection with a traffic stop that occurred in March on Highway 63 near the Rochester Airport. The citation issued to Mohamed Mahad Mahamud indicates a State Trooper clocked him driving a 2012 Nissan southbound on the highway at 103 mph in a 65 mph zone.
Mahamud was also charged with two misdemeanor counts of DWI and driving after revocation. One of the DWI counts involves driving while impaired by alcohol and a controlled substance or other intoxicating substance.
It was reported last week that a Faribault area teenager was arrested the previous week in connection with a statewide crackdown on speeding. The Olmsted County Sheriff's Office says the 16-year-old boy was clocked at 107 mph in a 55 mph zone on Country Club Road just west of Rochester. The traffic stop also led to the discovery of a small amount of marijuana, hollowed-out cigars, and materials to make marijuana wax.
