Rochester Now Most Moved-To City in Minnesota 2026
What’s the most in-demand place to live in Minnesota right now?
Every year, new data gives us a peek into where people are actually packing up and moving to… and for 2026, there’s a new city taking the top spot.
Last year, Duluth was crowned the most moved-to city in Minnesota, thanks to its mix of Lake Superior views, outdoor adventure, and relatively affordable living. It had that “escape but still have everything you need” energy… and clearly, people were into it.
But for 2026, there’s a new name at the top.
Rochester Now Most Moved-To City in Minnesota 2026:
The ranking comes from people’s searches on the MoveBuddha Moving Cost Calculator between July 2025 and January 2026. Basically, where Americans are daydreaming about moving this year.
Sure, not every search turns into an actual move, but it’s a pretty solid hint of where interest is heating up. And for Rochester? The numbers don’t lie. With an inbound-to-outbound ratio of 1.37, there are definetely more people looking to move here than leave.

So, what’s actually driving people to make the move? We know that Rochester is quite a bit more expensive than Duluth and we certainly don't have those amazing lake views. On the other hand though, we aren't entirely snowed in for days on end like what tends to happen up north. That has to count for a lot right?
Rochester is one of those rare cities that feels like you get the best of both worlds. It’s big enough to have plenty of options including a strong job market, a great food and coffee scene, and lots of stores, but still small enough that you can actually get around, bump into neighbors, and feel part of a community.
It's the biggest small town I've ever lived in!
