Rochester Police Captain Appointed Interim Chief
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Rochester Police Captain John Sherwin was sworn in Wednesday as interim chief of the department.
His wife and son joined him at the City Hall ceremony, which happened to take place on his birthday.
Sherwin will serve until Mayor Ardell Brede appoints someone to succeed longtime chief Roger Peterson, who will officially retire at 5:00 PM Wednesday.
Brede was told Tuesday the background check of the three finalists was going to take a few weeks longer than expected. But he received a call later in the day indicating the work is now expected to be wrapped up by next week.
Brede says he will be ready to select one of the finalists after the city’s Police Civil Service Commission certifies them.
