Rochester School District Enrollment Nears 18,000

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) -  Student enrollment in the Rochester School District this fall is slightly higher than predicted.

The Rochester School Board was presented last night with the official 2017 fall enrollment report. It shows there were a total of 17,932 students attending classes in the school district’s elementary, middle, high school, and of the special schools on October 1st.

That’s 286 above the student headcount on October 1st last year and is about 40 higher than the total predicted by the school district’s most recent enrollment projection that was issued in February. The February enrollment projections put the school district’s total student headcount above 18,000 for the first time next fall.

The enrollment tally this fall shows there were 8591 students in attendance at the school district’s elementary schools, 9045 students at the middle and high school levels and just under 300 students enrolled in the Early Childhood Education program and others categorized as special schools.

The report presented to the School Board last night will be sent to the Minnesota Department of Education, which uses the numbers to calculate the amount of state funding the school district will receive this year using the state’s per-pupil formula.
