Rochester Will Continue Operating Day Center at Mayo Civic Center
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Rochester will continue offering the Mayo Civic Center to serve as a temporary day center for at least another month.
The City Council made the decision Monday after being told Olmsted County will continue to provide onsite services.
The city opened the center at the exhibition hall section of the civic center March 30th, in part because of the closure of the public library due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Olmsted County and Catholic Charities have been operating an overnight warming center at the same location, giving 24-hour shelter to anyone that needed it. That service is scheduled to end on May 31st.
The city says more than 150 individuals have received shelter and other assistance at the site and 23 people have been moved to more stable housing situations.
Channel One Regional Food Bank, Salvation Army, The Landing, and other organizations will continue providing meals and other necessities to those at the shelter.
The day center is open every day, 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM.
