Rochester’s Marcus Sherels Not Done Playing in NFL

He may have been released from the Minnesota Vikings last month, but Marcus Sherels isn't done putting on the pads.

Rochester's own Marcus Sherels has been a source of pride ever since he was a walk-on with the University of Minnesota Golden Gopher Football team. Then, we all cheered when he was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Vikings back in 2010 and as he went on to play 9 seasons with the Purple and Gold in his home state.

We were then, understandably, sad when he signed with the New Orleans Saints in the off-season. Of course, they released him just before this season started and we all cheered again when he re-signed with the Vikings. That turned out to be short-lived, though, because the Vikings then released him back in October.

But, as it turns out, just because he's not a Viking anymore doesn't mean Marcus is done playing in the NFL. He's actually still going to be lacing up the cleats in Florida as a member of the Miami Dolphins.

This Miami Dolphins News story says Rochester's favorite son signed with the team on Tuesday, where he'll be a cornerback and return specialist. The Dolphins site ran down his impressive career, noting, "He has 72 tackles, one sack, one interception, 11 passes defensed, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries in his career. He has worked as both a kick and a punt returner for the Vikings, averaging 10.5 yards per return on punts with five touchdowns and 25.2 yards per return on kicks. He also has 37 special teams tackles in his career," the site said.
