For the first time ever, Mayo Clinic has retained its number-one ranking on the U.S. News and World Report's annual survey.

After finishing second in the "Hospital Honor Roll" back in 2015, Mayo jumped into first place last year. And the clinic's number-one ranking again this year marks the first time the world-wide medical leader based here in Rochester has stayed atop the rankings two years in a row.

According to a story by KTTC-TV, Mayo also ranked as the number-one hospital in Arizona, Florida and here in Minnesota, as well as ranking first in several specialties, including "diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology, geriatrics, and neurology," the story noted.

The story also quoted Mayo's CEO, Dr. John Noseworthy, who said about the latest top rankings, "Mayo Clinic is consistently top ranked nationwide more often than any other hospital because of the thousands of people here who shared a vision," he said in the story.

Cleveland Clinic took second in the latest survey, while Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore ranked third.
