Sam Hunt Shares Lighthearted ‘Body Like a Back Road’ at 2017 ACM Awards
Sam Hunt brought a relaxed vibe to the 2017 ACM Awards when performed his latest single, "Body Like a Back Road," during the Sunday night (April 2) awards ceremony.
Hunt started his "Body Like a Back Road" performance on a stage adorned with road signs, the backseat of a car and the like; however, he stepped into the audience to sing the song's final verse ... while sitting next to his fiancee, Hannah Lee Folwer (who looked a little embarrassed to be on live, national TV). Throughout the song, his band played onstage.
Following the success of Hunt's 2014 debut album Montevallo, "Body Like a Back Road" is the second new song that the artist has revealed in 2017; it follows "Drinkin' Too Much," released on New Year's Day. Written by Hunt alongside Zach Crowell, Josh Osborne and Shane McAnally, "Body Like a Back Road" is a lighthearted track -- though his sophomore album may not be as carefree.
“I’ve been writing songs over the past, I guess, year and a half, trying to conceptualize a new record, and it kinda started taking a heavy direction, and I sat down at one point and was like, ‘Okay, I’m gonna lighten this up a little bit, it needs a lighter flair,’” Hunt says. “[“Body Like a Back Road”] sort of swings, and hopefully it’s easy to listen to and will put a smile on some folks’ faces.”
Hunt recently joined Little Big Town to sing "Body Like a Back Road" in Nashville during the country quartet's opening weekend of their 2017 residency at the famed Ryman Auditorium. In June, the singer will kick off his 15 in a 30 Tour with special guests Maren Morris, Chris Janson and Ryan Follese.
