Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Another stretch of a busy highway in southeastern Minnesota is getting a higher speed limit.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation says crews began posting the new 60 mile-per-hour speed limit signs along the two-lane portion of Highway 14 running east of Rochester to Lewiston. The new limit takes effect once the signs are installed. There has been no change to the speed limit on the highway east of Lewiston.

The change is the latest implemented by MnDOT as a result of a directive from the Minnesota Legislature in 2014 that required the agency to evaluate the state's two-lane, two-way 55 mile-per-hour highways to determine if the speed limits could be increased reasonably and safely.
