State Patrol Trooper Assaulted Before High Speed Chase
A Minnesota State Patrol Trooper was assaulted and injured during a multi-county chase along Interstate 90 Thursday.
According to multiple news agencies, a State Patrol trooper attempted to make a traffic stop on Interstate 90 west of Highway 254 east of Blue Earth in Faribault County. During the stop, the vehicle's occupants assaulted the trooper, then fled at a high rate of speed.
The pursuit continued towards the Albert Lea area at times reaching speeds of up to 115 miles per hour. The daring driver at one point was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes.
While the chase was happening members of law enforcement saw a number of bundles being thrown from the car. According to the Albert Lea Police Department Facebook page, multiple bundles of marijuana were located throughout the pursuit route. The car was abandoned in Albert Lea before the suspects were found at Sportsman's Tavern just before 3 p.m.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the injured trooper was transported to United Hospital in Blue Earth in stable condition.
The names of the trooper and suspects are not available at this time.
Albert Lea Police say the two people arrested will likely be transferred to Faribault County.
