Stewartville, MN (KROC AM News) - A Stewartville man is accused of attacking a woman with a hammer, leaving her with a broken jaw and other injuries.

First responders called to a home in the 2100 block of Eagle Dr. NW around 6:00 AM Wednesday found the woman bleeding from severe facial injuries. It was determined she had suffered a broken jaw and some teeth, a broken finger, and lacerations on her head. She was taken to St. Marys Hospital where she underwent surgery.

Olmsted County Sheriff's Office Capt. Scott Behrns says the only other person who was there was 45-year-old Kenneth Hartmark. He told deputies he had been using methamphetamine and doesn’t recall attacking the woman. He said he woke up to find her bleeding and called 911.

Behrns says the woman was not able to talk but wrote a statement indicating she was hit on the head from behind.

Deputies found a small hammer in the residence believed to be the weapon used to attack the woman. They also found about 3 grams of meth.

Hartmark was arrested on felony assault and drug charges.
