If you think it's been a bit nippy here in southeast Minnesota lately, you're right. And, in fact, Monday could set a record as the coldest October 17th EVER in Rochester.

Ah, fall in Minnesota. It's that magical time of year when last Monday, our highs topped out in the 70s and then a week later, they're half of that. Literally. As in 35 degrees for the high temperature, which is in the forecast for much of our neck of the woods here on Monday, October 17th.

The forecast for Rochester from the National Weather Service (NWS) forecast office over in La Crosse said earlier this morning that we'd high temperatures would be just 35 degrees today (October 17th, 2022.) That's 22 degrees colder than the average high temperature of 57 degrees, according to the NWS October Normals chart.

And, if you look at the NWS Rochester October Records page, you can see that *if* we only make it to a high of 35 degrees on Monday, we'll break the record of Lowest High Temperature, which was a balmy 36 degrees, set way back 50 years ago in 1972.  Which would mean that Monday, October 17th, 2022 would officially be the coldest October 17th ever on record here in Minnesota's Med City.

I hope we DO set a new record for Lowest High Temperature today. I mean, why not? We already saw snow this fall. While most of us only saw a few flurries that melted when they hit the ground Friday, officially, Rochester International Airport reported a tenth of an inch, marking the first measurable snowfall of the season.

But that was only good for the 8th earliest snowfall of all time, so I say we should make a run for another record while we can, right? If, on the other hand, you think it's a little too early in the fall for such cold temps, you'll be glad to know the NWS forecast for later in the week calls for high temperatures back in the 60s.
