Winter weather will bring tricky travel conditions. That's a given. You can't do anything about it. Driving on slippery roads in an intoxicated condition is something you can control. The Owatonna Police Department (OPD) says, "Winter driving is hard enough - plan ahead and arrange a ride or designated driver if you plan on indulging in some alcoholic beverages."

In the weekly newsletter Just the Facts, the OPD reported on dealing with a pair of situations during a southern Minnesota storm. Upon being called to assist a motorist, officers "discovered a vehicle in a snowbank being hooked up to a tow truck. The driver was found still the driver's seat and showing signs of intoxication. He was arrested and provided a breath sample of .08."

Another incident from the same storm led officers to another vehicle stuck in a snowbank. A deputy, "found the driver walking a short distance away. This driver was also showing signs of intoxication, arrested and provided a breath sample of .15, or almost twice the legal limit to driver."

Winter can be tough. It would be nice to come home to a pool. Check out the photos of a home for sale with an indoor pool below.

Owatonna Police would also like to remind motorists to turn their lights on during adverse weather conditions. Just the Facts states, "If you're behind the wheel and there's precipitation, your vehicle's headlights, taillights and marker lights need to be turned on. Even if it's a light flurry."
