Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Minnesota Department of Transportation says an incident at the site of a road construction project near Rochester on Thursday week should serve as a reminder of the dangers of ignoring barricades and road closed signs.

A MnDOT spokesperson in Rochester says a motorist drove past the barricades erected on a stretch of Highway 63 and then traveled over 1,000 feet through freshly poured concrete. One of the largest MnDOT projects in the region this summer is the resurfacing of Highway 63 from north of Rochester to Zumbro Falls.

The driver was ticketed for a violation of state traffic laws and the individual’s vehicle insurance will likely receive an invoice from the contractor for the cost of repairing the damage, which has been estimated in excess of $100,000.
