Timberwolves Star Has Lost 7 Family Members to COVID-19
As Karl-Anthony Towns gets ready for the start of another NBA season he's opening up about the extremely difficult year he has had. The Timberwolves star has lost 7 family members to COVID-19.
Towns told CNN that he is working to keep the rest of his family safe, "I've seen a lot of coffins in the last seven months, eight months. But I have a lot of people who have -- in my family and my mom's family -- who have gotten Covid. I'm the one looking for answers still, trying to find how to keep them healthy. It's just a lot of responsibility on me to keep my family well informed and to make all the moves necessary to keep them alive."
The Timberwolves tip-off their regular season on December 23rd. Towns said it'll be difficult not having his family at games, "I play this game more because I just loved watching my family members seeing me play a game...So it's going to be hard to play."
In May, Towns donated $100,000 to the Mayo Clinic to improve COVD-19 testing. At that time, Dr. William Morice II, chair of the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at Mayo Clinic, told timberwolves.com, “We are blown away by Karl’s gesture to help us fast-track offering testing to more patients across Minnesota and the nation.”
