How Many Minnesotans Gamble? The Latest Numbers

While we know it doesn't always pay off, many of us here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes are willing to play the odds and plunk down a few dollars on some form of gaming or gambling. According to this Gambling in Minnesota study from the Department of Human Services, over two-thirds of Minnesota adults enjoy taking part in some form of gambling.

Specifically, nearly 67 percent of Minnesotans in the survey said they gambled over the past year, including buying lottery tickets and taking part in other gaming activities. A smaller percentage reported heading to one of Minnesota's casinos; about 15 percent reported that they gambled at a casino or other venue at least once in the past year, the survey noted.

Big Wins Happen: Minnesota Casino Jackpots Explained

But those casino patrons can score some big payouts. Like six-figure payouts, that is. That's according to a release from Treasure Island Resort & Casino, which said a man from Tukwila, Washington, a suburb of Seattle, hit a massive $259,644.10 Blackjack Match progressive jackpot at Treasure Island Resort & Casino Wednesday night.

The release went on to say that the jackpot was also the largest Blackjack Match progressive in Treasure Island’s history, noting that the last time it hit was August 4, 2025, and the winner took home $78,000.

Treasure Island Has Already Had Some Big Jackpots

Meanwhile, that big $259,644.10 jackpot was also the largest at Treasure Island since a lucky winner took home $267,285.45 back on May 10, 2015, making this progressive the second-largest table games jackpot ever at the casino in Welch, Minnesota. 

2026 has been a winning year for massive jackpots at Treasure Island. For instance, I wrote a story I wrote earlier this year about an Excelsior, Minnesota, man’s $106,525 jackpot on the slot machine Bull Mystery, which was one of two $100,000-plus wins in January alone.

Another lucky winner took home a $100,000 Bingo Millions Mini jackpot in January, while three other winners claimed sums of $50,000 or more with Ultimate Texas Hold’em Progressive wins, Treasure Island noted.

Treasure Island Resort & Casino is owned and operated by the Prairie Island Indian Community and is the only casino in southern Minnesota. The property features more than 1,800 slot, video poker, and video keno machines, 44 table games, a poker room, and a 500-seat high-stakes bingo hall.

In addition, Treasure Island offers fine and casual dining options, a full-service salon and spa, a family-friendly water park, a bowling alley, an event center, and live entertainment venues, including an outdoor amphitheater. Treasure Island’s 788-room hotel is the second-largest hotel in Minnesota.
