You know you're in for some pretty heavy weather when a national TV network sends one of its meteorologists to your city. And that just what the Weather Channel did Wednesday and Thursday, only their meteorologist didn't just report on the weather, he helped a stuck driver, too.

Mike Bettes is an on-camera meteorologist and storm chaser for the Weather Channel, and co-hosts their show, Weather Underground, each weekday. He routinely reports from areas of the country experiencing stormy weather.

Well, Wednesday afternoon, he just happened to be broadcasting live from downtown Rochester, as Winter Storm Selene (as the Weather Channel is calling the storm that's dumping all the snow on us right now) took aim. His live shot was set-up at the corner of 1st Av. and 3rd St. southwest, in front of the Half Barrel.  (Among the local guests joining Mike on national TV Wednesday included Rochester mayor Ardell Brede and MnDOT's Mike Dougherty-- pretty cool to see!)

Thursday morning, as the snow continued to fall on us, Mike had set up his live shot along 2nd St in southwest Rochester, in front of St. Marys Hospital. He was doing a live cut-in, when he noticed a minivan, stuck in the snow along 12th Av. So, what did he do? He ran to help push the van out!

It's always fun to see our local area get some national media attention, and it's even cooler to see that the Weather Channel's Mike Bettes seems to be a pretty cool guy, too. Check out it...
