Rochester March 2012 weather

Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Rochester’s temperatures have been below freezing since last Thursday afternoon and may stay there until Thursday.

Temperatures are forecast to climb into the mid 40’s on St. Patrick’s Day (Friday), which will be an improvement.

But it’s nothing compared to the record-setting weather that Rochester residents enjoyed five years ago.

A very unusually warm weather system moved into the region right before St Patrick’s Day that year and remained for nearly two weeks. High temperatures in Rochester were in the 60’s and 70’s between March 13 - 25 with an 81 recorded on St Patrick’s Day - the second warmest March day on record (it reached 82 in 1910).

Records were set March 11 and on seven straight days (March 13-19).

St Patrick’s Day was on a Saturday that year and downtown Rochester was packed with revelers walking around in shorts and tank tops.

The warm weather helped March 2012 go into Rochester’s weather record books as the warmest March ever.  It also contributed to 2012 as the warmest year in Rochester’s weather history.

There was no repeat the following year as March 2013 went into the books as Rochester’s 10th coldest March on record.
