Will 3D Printed Nuggets at KFC Become a Reality in MN?
We have all heard of 3D printing, but 3D printing of food is another thing!
Restaurants are looking to an alternative to meat and places like Burger King, with their Impossible Whopper, and McDonalds, testing a plant based burger in Canadian Markets, are leading the way. Making a burger patty alternative has been around for year but what about an alternative to chicken?
The idea of crafting the “meat of the future” arose among partners in response to the growing popularity of a healthy lifestyle and nutrition, the annual increase in demand for alternatives to traditional meat and the need to develop more environmentally friendly methods of food production.
According to a report by 3DBio, KFC is taking the next steps in creating a "restaurant of the future". A lot of people, and food places, are making the change towards a "meat less" future but the 3D printed chicken has one thing that maybe an issue for those looking to go animal free, it will still require the use of chicken cells to create.
3D Bioprinting Solutions is developing additive bioprinting technology using chicken cells and plant material, allowing it to reproduce the taste and texture of chicken meat almost without involving animals in the process. KFC will provide its partner with all of the necessary ingredients, such as breading and spices, to achieve the signature KFC taste. At the moment, there are no other methods available on the market that could allow the creation of such complex products from animal cells.
Some people say that meat alternatives taste like the real thing! To me personally, they both a completely different taste! Would you try these 3D printed nuggets if they become a real thing or will you be sticking to the real thing?
