Winter Storm Watch Issued For Possible Friday Storm
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Rochester appears to be on the southern edge of a significant snow event forecast for Friday and Saturday.
The National Weather Service has posted a winter storm watch for large areas of Minnesota and Iowa from Friday morning into Saturday afternoon. The most recent forecasting models indicate the Rochester area could see 5 to 8 inches of snow from the storm, while up to 10 inches of accumulation is possible north of a line from Mankato to Lake City and into western Wisconsin.
Forecasters say some freezing precipitation is also possible in areas south of I-90 and into northern Iowa, particularly Friday night and early Saturday. The end of the snow on Saturday is predicted to be accompanied by strong winds, with gusts up to 40 miles-per-hour on Saturday.
Prior to Friday, a wind chill advisory has been issued from 9 PM tonight through 9 AM Thursday. The National Weather Service the air temperature is forecast to fall to between 5 and 10 below zero in the Rochester area Thursday morning and the wind chill readings could be in the -20 to -30 degree range.
