Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The Rochester Police Dept. issued this request Wednesday: if you happen to come into possession of a suspicious device, call us.

And please, don’t bring it to the Law Enforcement Center.

That’s what a woman did Tuesday evening.

She brought a suspicious package to the front door of the LEC at the Government Center around 8:00 pm. Officers shut down the parking lot and brought in a K9 that specializes in detecting explosive materials. After the dog failed to detect anything, the package was placed in a secure area.

The St Paul bomb squad was expected to collect the device Wednesday and dispose of it.

Police Capt. Casey Moilanen says a man the woman knows gave her the device, telling her he found it on a bike path near the Crossroads Center. Moilanen says the 51-year-old woman thought “the appropriate thing to do” was to take it to the LEC.
