Friday was a good day for Minnesota sports fans. A REAL good day.

The Twins Home Run Barrage continued, the Gopher baseball team stayed alive in the Big Ten tournament and the Gopher softball team is now a win away from a slot in the Women’s College Softball World Series.

The Twins added three more home runs to their 2019 total, which climbed to 101 - just one shy of the record by any team at the 50 game mark (Seattle holds the record of 10, set in 1999). The Twins cruised to an 11-4 win over the White Sox at Target Field to retain the best record in MLB at 34-16.

Meanwhile a few miles away, the Gopher softball team did something the program has never done - it won a Super Regional game with a 5-3 win over LSU.

The game was played at the University of Minnesota’s Jane Sage Cowles Stadium in front of the largest crowd ever at the venue (1,344). The teams will play Saturday (5PM) and a Gopher win will put the team in the Women's College World Series next week in Oklahoma City. If they lose, a decisive Game 3 will be played Sunday.

The Gopher baseball team survived another must-win game in the Big Ten tournament in Omaha, blanking Iowa 3-0. Because the Gophers lost their opening game, they need two more wins against Ohio State Saturday to make it to Sunday’s championship game.
