Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) – The Olmsted County Sheriff's Department responded Wednesday morning to a report of possible mail theft and ended up recovering a stolen truck.

Olmsted County Sheriff's Sgt. Jim Schueller says deputies were sent to a residence in the 2500 block of Hadley Valley Road Northeast around 7 AM after a caretaker for the property went to investigate a suspicious vehicle and found what appeared to be pieces of mail scattered around it. The caretaker also found a man with the vehicle and told him he would call the authorities if he didn’t leave.

The responding deputies soon discovered the vehicle had license plates that had been reported stolen in Wisconsin and a check of the VIN showed the vehicle and been reported stolen in Rochester. Sgt. Schueller says the man who had refused the caretaker's order to leave had the keys to the vehicle in his pocket. He says 37-year-old Daniel Hill of Chatfield was arrested on a felony count of possessing stolen property.

Hill told the officers he had been in the company of a woman and was staying with the vehicle while she went to find some help in getting it unstuck. Sgt. Schueller says investigators are looking for her and note she has been involved in previous cases of mail theft in this area.
