Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A Chatfield man has been charged with sexually assaulting a young girl earlier this year.

A criminal complaint was filed in Olmsted County Court Wednesday, charging 31-year-old David Townsend with three felony counts of criminal sexual conduct. Two of them indicate sexual penetration was involved.

The complaint says the girl is under the age of 5. According to the complaint, the alleged incident happened in February.

The girl’s mother met with a Rochester police investigator and said her daughter woke up around 8:00 pm the previous night “crying and had wipes in her hands.” The complaint says the girl told her mother “that her buttocks was bleeding.”

The complaint says Townsend “denied doing anything” to the girl. He agreed to give a DNA sample and the complaint says “BCA results show that Townsend's DNA was found on Victim's underwear and vaginal area.”

Townsend has been ordered to make his first court appearance in December.

News update:  An area Highway 14 project is wrapping up.
