On Wednesday night into Thursday afternoon (February 15th-February 16th) a winter weather event moved through a chunk of the state. It made a large impact in southern parts of Eastern Iowa like Cedar Rapids and Iowa City,

The US National Weather Service of Des Moines shared that the total snowfall was historic, especially out west by the capital. A record was broken for daily snowfall at the Des Moines International Airport on Thursday, February 16th.

The city received 5.6 inches, breaking the record set for daily snowfall in 2019.

The Coralville/Iowa City region received approximately 4-6 inches from this storm, according to the National Weather Service. Johnson County roads were covered due to this weather which left many people cautiously reassessing any sort of travel. Travel was not advised for many of these roads.

Ticket holders to a Thursday night concert were wondering if the show would be worth the stress of driving.

Country superstar Parker McCollum returned to the Hawkeye State that Wednesday night for his show at the Xtream Arena in Coralville. His show was set to kick off at 7:30 PM the next day with his supporting act Corey Kent starting off the concert.

The "To Be Loved By You" singer/songwriter and his entourage beat the winter weather by just a few hours.

Both singer and venue had to reassure ticket holders that the event was still a go for that evening. Fans were interacting in the comments of the venue's post about the event. Some were even saying that the concert should be postponed until the summer since he'll be back in the Midwest at that time.

One commenter named Lisa even said,

"Wow, his semi’s must’ve beat the storm in !!!! NOT worth being out in this, he should cancel the show himself. He’s getting his money regardless."

Fans anxiously awaited any news about the show's cancellation, but both the venue officials and singer continued to confirm that the show would go on as planned.

Parker even posted a brief message on his Instagram story about the Iowa concert.

For fans who did attend the show, they were in for a treat from the Texas native.

McCollum finally announced the follow-up to his 2021 record Gold Chain Cowboy will be released this year. Never Enough, a fifteen song album, is set to release on May 12th, 2023.

 

Fans at the Coralville show even got to listen to his first single for this new era of music before it dropped at midnight. The song is called "I Ain't Going Nowhere" came out at midnight on Thursday, February 16th.
